Pediatric CNA - Taking Care of God's Own Creation

A pediatric CNA takes care of children, who are below 18 years of age. They work in pediatric centers, and pediatric wards of hospitals . They also work as nursing assistants for pediatricians. A person who has completed their nursing assistant training and obtained CNA certification and license can work as a pediatric nursing aide.

Some of the duties of a pediatric CNA are as follows:

  • Assist the patients (children) in their daily activities such as brushing their teeth, using the bed pans, bathing them, combing their hair, and trimming their nails
  • Conduct vital tests such as checking blood pressure level, temperature, and pulse rate of the patients
  • Assist the patient's family, when they are in need. Make them aware about their child's physical condition.
  • The pediatric nursing aide deals with children, who may get frightened due to environment at the medical setting, therefore these children need to be dealt with utmost care. They should make the children feel comfortable, so that they co-ordinate for further treatments.
Since pediatric nursing aides have to deal with children, they are often paid more salary as compared to other certified nursing assistants. The average salary of pediatric nurse assistants can be calculated to be around USD 30,000 per year.

The rapid increase in the number of health care facilities and pediatric centers has improved the career prospects of pediatric CNAs to a large extent. Hence, there is a wide scope of progress in this field.
