Working as a CNA – It’s all about Skills and Patience


CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) is a vital position in the field of nursing and health care. To become an efficient nursing assistant one needs to possess certain qualities, such as patience and calmness, dedicated towards work, caring, optimistic and adaptable to any surroundings.  Along with these, it is important that they should come up with immediate and positive solution at the time of emergency. The work of a certified nursing assistant may vary from one location to another, but the basic services of a CNA remains the same. 

The basic roles and responsibilities of a certified nursing assistant includes:
  • Noticing the overall progress of the patients
  • Taking vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, and pulse rate 
  • Taking the patients for X-ray and ultrasound etc.
  • Dressing and cleaning the wounds of the patients 
  • Providing them food rich in nutrients and liquid diet 
  • Maintaining cleanliness in the surrounding areas 
  • Preventing the bed sores 
  • Providing them mental and emotional support, especially to elderly patients or those who are suffering from mental situation/condition. 



CNA classes are offered by various institutes across the states of USA via online mode as well as offline mode. Nowadays, online classes are preferred as they are more effective as compared to the classroom teaching. There is also some flexibility in timing and cost, for the online classes. It is important that you should research well beforehand for the institute so that you can receive the best training program and strengthen your key skills in an effective manner.

These classes are divided into 2 sections; one is the theoretical and another is the practical. It is essential to attend all the classes so that you can gather as much as information as you can. After the completion of training, you will have to appear for the CNA examination that is also conducted in two sessions, one is the multiple choice question and another is the skill test. It is compulsory to pass both the examination to get the certification degree, thereby applying for the position of certified nursing assistant in any of the reputed medical hospital or nursing homes.
